Maggie Humm’s Letter of Protest Regarding Construction Plan That Would Destroy View from Talland House, PA15/04337
12 July 2015
Dear Planning Committee
I am writing to express my concern at the proposed residential development which will block the view of Godrevy Lighthouse from Talland House, St Ives.
Virginia Woolf spent the happiest summers of her life in St Ives and the view of the lighthouse is immortalised in her To The Lighthouse.
2017 is the 90th anniversary of the novel and the resulting TV/radio/newspaper publicity will bring many international visitors (and income) to the town.
In addition the Annual International Virginia Woolf Conferences in 2016 and 2017 are to be held in England and many delegates will be visiting St. Ives to see Woolf’s wonderful descriptions at first hand.
The income generated will be of great value to St Ives.
To destroy such a crucial part of St Ives history, heritage and beauty for short term planning needs would be an appalling act of vandalism.
Please vote against the planning application by Porthminster Beach View Ltd.
