Those who attended the Sept. 26 garden party at Talland House in St. Ives, Cornwall, got what was billed as a “last view” of Godrevy Lighthouse, along with speeches from Virginia Woolf scholar Maggie Humm and Talland House gardener and event organizer Polly Carter, along with music and art.

I was unable to attend the event, which was part of the annual St. Ives Festival, so I am sharing Maggie’s Facebook posts about it. This way, we can all feel we were there — at least for a moment.

The iconic view of the lighthouse that Woolf immortalized in her famous 1927 novel To the Lighthouse will soon be obscured by a development of flats, despite a years-long struggle to save it.
