The deadline to propose a paper, panel, workshop or reading at the 2010 Annual International Conference on Virginia Woolf is Jan. 15. It will be held June 3 to 6 at Georgetown College in Georgetown, Kentucky.

Taking a page from AbeBooks’ blog, the folks at Entertainment Weekly have paired authors with pets that look like them. Or so they think.

One EW pairing links Jean-Paul Sartre with a pug dog, but AbeBooks connects that pug pup to Agatha Christie.

Woolf is not paired with a look-alike pet on the AbeBooks’ blog, but EW juxtaposes her alongside a greyhound.

Check it out and see if you notice any resemblance. I myself do not. But maybe I am biased in my favorite author’s favor.

If it weren’t for blogging, I would never have seen the beautiful bust of Virginia Woolf created by Italian sculptor Valentina Mazzei.

Valentina posted a comment and link on Blogging Woolf that clued me in to the fact that she is a Woolf afficianado whose most recent project is a lost wax hot cast bronze sculpture of Woolf.

The sculpture is available in four different finishes in a limited edition of eight pieces. It measures nearly 8 inches by 5 1/2 inches and is priced at $1,200.

I plan to be in Rome in mid-May, and I hope I have the opportunity to meet Valentina and the bust in person. If so, I will write more about it.
