Edward Mendelson had a need. While working on the text of To the Lighthouse, the Virginia Woolf scholar wanted to use a hard-copy facsimile of the first edition. And since he couldn’t find anything available online, he created his own.

Now he has made that facsimile available to everyone as a hard copy print-on-demand edition. It can be purchased via Amazon at the lowest price the mammoth online retailer allows.

Here’s how Mendelson describes the volume, which uses his “low-quality scans of the first edition” of Woolf’s 1927 novel printed by the Hogarth Press:

This is an absolutely no-frills production, with plain paper covers and all the faults of my original scans. But it’s there if anyone wants it. Despite its faults, it’s surprisingly satifisfying to work with.

They are the same scans that Mendelson posted online some time ago.
