Virginia Woolf’s reception in South Korea will be the topic for the third session of the A Room of One’s Own Around the Globe seminar on Thursday, Jan. 22, at 4 p.m. CET on Zoom.

Who: Boosung Kim and Hyunji Choi of Ewha Womans University
What: Presented in English, this third session of the “A Room of One’s Own Around the Globe” seminar will discuss the reception of Woolf’s 1929 polemic in South Korea.

About the project

The A Room of One’s Own: Echos and circulation research project offers to take up Virginia Woolf’s landmark essay A Room of One’s Own (1929) and explore its full potential. One question it attempts to answer is what echo chambers has A Room of One’s Own opened up nearly a century after its publication?

Led by Valérie Favre (Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne) and Anne-Laure Rigeade (Université Paris Est Créteil), this project will continue until 2029, the centenary of the publication of A Room of One’s Own, and will include seminars, a conference, and a collective publication.

Woolf Salon 27: “VW Miscellany at 100” is May 10

Join Woolf Salon No. 27: “Virginia Woolf Miscellany at 100″ on Zoom on Friday, May 10, from 2-4 p.m. EDT (New York).

The Miscellany is the semi-annual publication of the International Virginia Woolf Society.

The session will include a rich discussion (and celebration) of the Virginia Woolf Miscellany, which celebrated the major benchmark of its 100th issue last year. The discussion will include future and past editors of the publication, along with readers and newcomers.

The readings

Organizers ask that folks read through issues 1 and 5 of the VWM, peruse the online archive as time allows, and come in with a favorite issue or cluster that has been meaningful to them, their scholarship, or their teaching. (Issue 101 is now available online.)

Homework: Read Issue 1 and Issue 5 and peruse the online archive as you have time.

The Salon Conspirators — Benjamin Hagen, Shilo McGiff, Amy Smith, and Drew Shannon — began the Woolf Salon Project in July 2020 to provide opportunities for conversation and conviviality among Woolf-interested scholars, students, and common readers during and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic.

Are we all Zoomed out and ready for a walk in the fresh air? The 30th Annual International Conference on Virginia Woolf, held virtually for the first time via Zoom, is now over. And while seeing each other in tiny boxes was wonderful, we missed being together in person.

But kudos to conference organizer Ben Hagen, assistant professor of English at the University of South Dakota and president of the International Virginia Woolf Society, for pulling off this amazing virtual event.
