Now is the time to submit panel proposals on Virginia Woolf for the Modern Language Association Convention, scheduled for Jan. 5-8, 2023, in San Francisco. Submissions are due Dec. 17.

The International Virginia Woolf Society will have one guaranteed panel on Woolf at the 2023 Convention. The group can also submit one additional panel proposal (which is often accepted but not guaranteed). And it can also collaborate with another allied organization and submit a third panel proposal. These joint panels elicit especially lively, productive exchanges.

Guidelines for submissions

  • Note that this is a call for panel proposals, not individual paper proposals.
  • Please submit one topic only. The submission should include the following:
    • a maximum 35-word description (word count includes title)
    • the name(s) and contact information of the proposed organizer(s)

How to submit

Please submit your proposal to Benjamin Hagen, president of the IVWS, via email to Benjamin.Hagen@usd.edu with the subject line Woolf MLA 2023. The submission deadline is Dec. 17, 2021.

Once proposals are in, Hagen will send them out to IVWS members for a vote. Anyone who wishes to propose a session of their own outside of the IVWS process can visit the MLA website.

The International Virginia Woolf Society will have one guaranteed panel at the Modern Language Association convention in 2016.

The IVWS can submit one additional panel, which is usually accepted but not guaranteed. In addition, the group will collaborate with another allied organization still to be identified and submit a third panel.

IVWS members are invited to submit a panel topic for MLA 2016, which will be held in Austin, Texas.

Note that this is a call for panels, not individual paper proposals. Please submit one topic only. To do so, include the following in your submission:

  • A 35-word description (word count includes title), no longer!
  • The name(s) and contact information of the proposed organizer(s).

Submit your panel proposal to IVWS President-Elect Kristin Czarnecki at IVWSociety@gmail.com (note only one “S” in the address), subject line: Woolf MLA Austin 2016.

Deadline for submission: Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014.

This is the last call to submit a panel topic for the Modern Language Association Convention in Chicago, scheduled for Jan. 9-12, top_mla_logo2014. The deadline was slightly extended due to individuals having the flu.

The International Virginia Woolf Society will have one guaranteed panel, and the group can submit one additional panel, as it did for the 2013 MLA Convention in Boston with the Katherine Mansfield Society. It may also (as for this past MLA with the Joseph Conrad Society) collaborate with another Allied Organization and submit a third panel.

Organizers would like to continue the tradition of submitting multiple excellent panel proposals. Note that this is a call for panels, not individual paper proposals. Please submit only one topic.

What you should submit:

  1. a 35-word description (word count includes title)
  2. the name(s) and contact information of the proposed organizer(s). [email addresses required.] Note: It can be quite helpful to have more than one organizer, especially if seasonal illness strikes

Submit to Leslie Kathleen Hankins electronically at lhankins@cornellcollege.edu or by mail. Electronic submissions are strongly preferred. The topic line should read: Woolf MLA 2014.

Deadline: Jan. 15 for the receipt of proposals.

The IVWS will vote on the resulting proposals in January, so as to meet MLA deadlines.

If you wish to propose your own special session outside of the IVWS process, please go to the MLA website, http://www.mla.org.
